Another Simple Favor director Paul Feig gushed over star Blake Lively’s input on her character’s wardrobe.

“Her ideas on wardrobe are spectacular,” Feig said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on Saturday, March 8. “When she first shows up [in the movie], Blake was like, ‘I want to show up in a suit that looks like a prison outfit.’ It’s one of these things that when somebody first says it, you’re like, ‘That’s weird.’ Then you realize it’s actually brilliant.”

Feig also discussed another decision of Lively’s regarding her character’s clothing — a comically large sun hat that appears in the film’s trailer.

“There’s a store in Capri called Fiore, and she went in and they had this big-ass sunhat,” he recalled. “She came back and said, ‘I just bought this hat. Can we put it in the movie?’ That’s definitely going in the movie. You kidding me?”

He continued, “And my favorite thing is how she navigates the street with it. There’s one shot where she’s walking past the camera and, as she goes by, she lifts it up so you can see her face. I’m like, ‘You are such a fucking movie star.’”

Lively has been known to make her own decisions when it comes to her wardrobe on movie sets. Her eyebrow-raising costumes as Lily Bloom in It End With Us made headlines in 2023 when photos of her character first surfaced online. Issues with her wardrobe even made it into her sexual harassment lawsuit with director Justin Baldoni, which was filed in December 2024.

The court docs — which have been viewed by Us Weekly and detail alleged moments between Lively and Baldoni on the film’s set — claim that Baldoni “made the rest of the cast and crew wait for hours” while he allegedly had an emotional breakdown over the public reaction to Lively’s costumes.

The suit claimed Baldoni was upset over “social media commenters” posting that Lively “looked old and unattractive” after seeing photos from their first day of filming for It Ends With Us.

“His lengthy outburst caused a delay in shooting, forcing an emotional scene to be shot haphazardly,” Lively’s suit alleged. Baldoni has denied the “outrageous” claims made in the lawsuit through his lawyer, Bryan Freedman.
