A specialty chocolate company on Friday expanded its recall of pricey candy bars to include the entire product line over fears of possible contamination with salmonella.

Spring & Mulberry – a Raleigh, N.C.-based company that sells date-sweetened chocolates for $10 a bar, or $95 for a variety pack – said an investigation by its manufacturers and the FDA identified “a single lot of date ingredient” as the likely contamination source.

Salmonella can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in vulnerable populations, including children, elderly individuals or people with weakened immune systems.

In some rare cases, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause serious infections, endocarditis or arthritis, according to food safety officials.

The recall now covers all of the brand’s candy bar flavors, including Blood Orange, Coffee, Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, Mango Chili, Mint Leaf, Mixed Berry, Mulberry Fennel, Pecan Date, Pure Dark, Pure Dark Mini and Sea Salt, according to the Food & Drug Administration.

Recalled products were sold online and through select retail partners nationwide since August 2025. Consumers can identify recalled chocolate bars by looking at the lot and batch codes located on the back of the packaging and the inner wrap.

The affected chocolates should not be consumed. For a refund, customers can send a photo of the candy bar packaging showing the batch code to recalls@springandmulberry.com, and then they should dispose of the product immediately, according to the FDA.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the recalled products to date, the FDA said Friday.

All products included in the expanded recall have tested negative for salmonella. The recall includes all finished candy bars made with the lot of “date ingredient” identified by the investigation.

Spring & Mulberry initially issued a voluntary recall on Jan. 12 of its Mint Leaf bars over fears of possible bacterial contamination, after routine third-party testing by a manufacturer found the finished product had tested positive for salmonella.

Later that month, it expanded the recall to include several other chocolate bar flavors, saying salmonella can be difficult to detect and sometimes appears intermittently.
