Princess Beatrice has welcomed her second baby with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said in a statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday, January 29.

“The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces,” the statement said. “Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news.”

The couple also shared the first official image of the baby via the royal family’s social media accounts.

One of Athena’s middle names, Elizabeth, appears to be a heartfelt tribute to Beatrice’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch died at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022.

Edoardo also posted the image on Instagram with the caption: “We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her.”

“Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena,” he added. “A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”

Buckingham Palace announced Beatrice’s pregnancy in October 2024, revealing at the time that the baby was due in “early spring” 2025. The palace added that both families — including King Charles III and Beatrice’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson — were “delighted with the news.”

Beatrice and Edoardo — who tied the knot in July 2020 — also shared the development via the royal family’s Instagram account at the time. In the first photo, the couple embraced as she looked at the camera and he stared lovingly at her. The second image showed Edoardo walking along a trail in the woods while holding hands with the pair’s daughter, Sienna, whom they welcomed in September 2021. Edoardo’s son, Wolfie, from his previous relationship with ex-fiancée Dara Huang, held Sienna’s other hand as the trio enjoyed the outdoors.

While Beatrice has kept her family life relatively private, her loved ones have offered occasional glimpses into her role as a mother.

“Darling Beatrice. Words can’t quite express the joy and excitement I feel as you and Edo prepare to welcome another precious addition to your beautiful family,” Ferguson, who is also the mother of Princess Eugenie, wrote via Instagram in October 2024. “Becoming a granny again fills my heart with so much happiness and gratitude.”

She continued: “Watching you grow as a mother has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and now to see your family blossom further is an absolute blessing. Our family is growing, and so too is the love that surrounds us. I cannot wait to meet this little one and to share in all the wonderful memories we will make together. All my love.”

Huang, for her part, revealed to Harper’s Bazaar UK in March 2024 that it has been “easy” to coparent with Beatrice and Edoardo.

“Wolfie has had two sets of parents trying to help him on both sides, and I just think, ‘The more, the merrier,’” Huang told the outlet at the time. “I feel lucky to have such positive people around him, who really embrace him — because it didn’t have to be so easy.”

Huang added that she does not understand why some exes “hold their children as collateral.”

“That doesn’t make any sense,” she said, adding that coparenting with Edoardo and Beatrice has created “a happy home and lifestyle” for Wolfie.
