The biggest names in street snowboarding will be in Boston this weekend to compete in the annual Red Bull Heavy Metal event.
The contest features a lineup of the sport’s biggest competitors, including X Games gold medalist Zeb Powell.
It’s the first time the event — which started in the early 2000s and was revived in 2022 — is being held in Boston. Past host cities have included Detroit, Michigan, and Duluth, Minnesota.
Loon Mountain, one of the event’s partners, will be dumping 300 tons of snow at City Hall Plaza for the competition, according to organizers.

Red Bull Heavy Metal is a one-day street snowboarding competition. Street snowboarding is a type of snowboarding done on street roads, handrails, stairs and benches.
The event began in 2002 and ran for several years before taking a hiatus for nearly a decade, according to Red Bull. It was revived in 2022 and has been held every year since.
This year, there are two Red Bull Heavy Metal competitions. Earlier in February, the first event was held in St. Paul, Minnesota.
