Ron Darling is entering his 21st season in the Mets booth, analyzing games for SNY.

Post Sports+ caught up with the former Mets pitcher this week to discuss the team and expectations for this season.

The Mets are planning a six-man starting rotation. Are you concerned they won’t get the ball to Freddy Peralta and Nolan McLean as much as they want?

RD: In today’s game, it’s all about protection for later in the season. You’re right, there used to be an attitude of, ‘Pitch our best pitchers as much as we can in April and then figure out the rotation as we go.’ Those times have certainly changed. For the most part every team in baseball has the same scenario as the Mets: They’re at least five, mostly six-man staffs coming out of spring training, if they’re lucky and healthy.
