Kayla Rae Reid is ready to share a glimpse into her new reality after separating from estranged husband Ryan Lochte.

“Obviously, we’re not in a good place,” Reid, 34, told People in an interview published Wednesday, February 4. “I really pray that he becomes the father our kids deserve.”

In June 2025, Reid announced she was filing for divorce from Lochte, 41, after seven years of marriage. The exes share Caiden, 8, Liv, 6, and Georgia, 2.

At this stage in their separation, Reid says she is “parallel parenting” with the former Olympian, but they “try to have minimal interaction.”

“I wish him well,” she added before sharing an update on divorce proceedings. “It could be a long road ahead still. I would love to be divorced.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Lochte’s lawyer for comment.

Last month, Lochte moved into a new home with his girlfriend, Molly Gillihan. At the time, the Olympic swimmer told People that he was proud of the work he’s done in the past year, including “going to rehab, rededicating my life to Christ, going to therapy and making changes that put my children first.”

While Reid didn’t address Lochte’s new relationship, the real estate agent confirmed she is choosing to remain single.

“My focus is on my kids and building the life I envision for our future,” she shared. “[The kids are] doing OK. They have a great community of friends and a great school. Obviously, they have their little struggles, and they have their confusion because they are wondering what’s going on.”

At the start of the year, Reid and her close friend Caroline Lunny launched a brand-new podcast titled “The Comeback Era.”

The pair hope to release weekly episodes that feature “raw, real and resilient conversations.”

“We were like, ‘How can we create a show to inspire women to show them that the bottom is not a failure?’” Reid explained. “The redemption and gaining control of your life, the do-over, it’s truly a gift from God. So why not share that with other people while we learn along the way?”

While fans will have to tune in to see just how much Reid talks about her personal life, the mother of three has previously shared a glimpse into her mindset as she navigates a new chapter.

In October 2025, Reid reintroduced herself on social media, saying, “I’m currently navigating a complex divorce, and let me tell you — divorce can feel like being frozen in time. I’m using this season to rebuild, rediscover who I am and chase my dreams with clarity and courage.”

In her latest interview, Reid said she can’t help but remember the woman she was before her marriage came to an end.

“I admire the woman I was before. Obviously, I’m proud of who I am, and what I’ve overcome and all that stuff, but I would like to find bits and pieces of her again,” she said. “I look back, and I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh, this year, I can’t believe what I made it through.’ I have said it a thousand times, but I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have my girlfriends and my family. They have carried me on their backs this past year.”
