Nearly half a ton of meth seized

A tactical operation by the Sonora State Security Cabinet, coordinated by the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office, resulted in the seizure of about half a ton of methamphetamine during a search operation in this city.

The raid took place on Nov. 7, between 5:06 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at a residence on Reforma Agraria Avenue between 37th and 38th streets, in the Altar neighborhood. It was carried out as part of a homicide investigation.

State agents, along with personnel from the National Defense Secretariat, Navy, National Guard and Municipal Police participated in the operation.

During the search, authorities reportedly found 44 bundles of the drug known as “crystal,” weighing an estimated 445.9 kilograms, as well as 58 additional bags with similar characteristics, weighing 36.6 kilograms – for a total of nearly 481.5 kilograms of seized narcotics.

A 2005 Mazda 6 vehicle and a spent 9mm cartridge casing were also confiscated.

The search stemmed from an investigation into a homicide committed on Nov. 6, in which the victim, Miguel Ángel “N,” was allegedly killed by a suspect who has already been fully identified.

The property and the seized items were placed under the custody of the public ministry agent, who ordered seals to be placed on all entrances.

Suspected members of criminal cell arrested

Abdel “N,” 63, and Miguel Ángel “N,” 32, identified as alleged members of the “Los Rusos” criminal cell operating in the Sonora-Baja region, were arrested in this city following two search warrants.

Through his official X account, Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, reported last Monday that the operation was carried out by personnel from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Secretariat of National Defense, Navy, Attorney General’s Office and National Guard.

The detainees were allegedly found in possession of doses of fentanyl, cocaine, crystal meth, methamphetamines, live ammunition, cash, a firearm and three vehicles. They are reportedly members of a criminal cell involved in the trafficking of weapons, drugs, ammunition and currency, according to an official statement.

Two suspects arrested in kidnapping, homicide

On Nov. 7, as a result of investigative work carried out by the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office, agents from the Ministerial Criminal Investigation Agency executed arrest warrants against Javier “N,” 29, and Oscar “N,” 33, for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a woman.

Both men have been formally charged and ordered held in pretrial detention.

The events under investigation occurred on Oct. 7, between 8 and 11 p.m., when the suspects allegedly restrained and held the 32-year-old victim against her will inside a residence located in the Aviación 2 neighborhood.

On Oct. 8, at 2:05 p.m., the victim’s body was found in the Altar neighborhood, wrapped in a blanket and bound hand and foot with white plastic ties.

A forensic report determined the cause of death to be cranial trauma resulting from sharp and blunt force injuries.

Man killed in Solidaridad neighborhood

A fatal shooting occurred on the night of Nov. 6, around 10:15 p.m., at Camelias “B” Avenue and 44th Street, in the Solidaridad neighborhood of this city.

Public Safety officers responded to the scene and requested assistance from Red Cross paramedics, who confirmed the victim had no vital signs.

The deceased was identified as Miguel “M,” about 21 years old, who had been driving a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office and the Ministerial Criminal Investigation Agency took charge of the scene to conduct the corresponding investigations and identify those responsible.

Missing fishermen found in the Gulf of Santa Clara

After more than two days of being reported missing in the waters of the Gulf of California, off the coast of the Gulf of Santa Clara, two fishermen from that community were found alive on Nov. 5.

The Port Captain’s Office in the Gulf of Santa Clara reported that the fishermen had set out on the boat Tornillalito I on Nov. 3, at 8:03 a.m.

The crew members were identified as “Zurdo,” about 58 years old, and Gerardo, about 30 years old.

The white-and-blue fiberglass vessel, belonging to a local cooperative, had last been seen on the night of Nov. 3, about 49 kilometers south of the port.

On the night of Nov. 5, the Port Captain’s Office announced that the fishermen had safely returned to shore, reporting that the boat’s engine had malfunctioned.
