Celebrity chef Sandra Lee shared a firsthand account while fleeing the fire blazing through Pacific Palisades, California.
Sandra, 58, took to Instagram on Tuesday, January 7, to share a photo and videos of the devastation after she was forced to evacuate her home.
“My home in Malibu has got me through some of the darkest moments in my life. I have loved creating it, embellishing it, building it, caring for it, and protecting it,” the Food Network star wrote in her caption. “I’ve cherished every moment I have had with it. As the fire draws closer, I pray for it—- I pray for everyone in Los Angeles right now. What an incredibly terrifying moment for my community.”
“As the fire reaches our doorstep, please stay in contact with each other; Community in times like these is our lifeline,” she penned. “We are all safe but the fire is inching closer to my slice of heaven in Malibu. When I was waitress at the Malibu Adobe back in 1989, I dreamed of a home like this (FOR ME) and worked my butt off for it. I am sad but I am sending all my love to all the first responders and firefighters who are literally giving it all they’ve got to keep us safe!!! Love and Prayers always- Sandra Lee.”
In the first video in the post, Sandra showed the blaze, which was right in front of her, as she drove away.
“Sandra, it’s right here,” someone said in the background of the video, as the TV personality could be heard saying. “I got everything I could.”
In the comments section of the post, fans showed their support for Sandra as the fire rages on.
“Prayers to you all,” American Pickers star Mike Wolfe wrote in a comment.
“I’m hoping you’re ok,” Rosanna Scotto said.
“I hope your house is ok!” Candy Spelling said.
“Sending you so many prayers, sweetheart I was in LA today and I saw the smoke in the sky and I just couldn’t believe it,” another person said.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department said that more than 10,300 homes were threatened by the fire, which was first reported on Tuesday morning. As residents of Pacific Palisades fled from their homes, they were met with traffic jams on major roadways, per CBS News.
Two more fires broke out in California’s Eaton Canyon and in Sylmar, with strong winds carrying the blaze across thousands of acres of land.
Other celebrities were forced to evacuate their homes, including Mark Hamill. The Star Wars actor revealed on Instagram that he “evacuated Malibu so last-minute” and there were “small fires on both sides of the road.”
Mark and his wife, Marilou York, arrived with their dog, Trixie, at their daughter Chelsea’s house in Hollywood later that night.
“Most horrific fire since ‘93. STAY SAFE,” he told his followers.
“Stay safe and of course the force is with you,” one person wrote in Mark’s Instagram comments, while another said, “I hope you’re alright, Mark! And I mean this in all seriousness but may the Force be with you…”
