Two Florida restaurants, including one right here in Brevard County, are included in Southern Living magazine’s “15 Best Roadside Restaurants In The South” article, garnering attention from the USA TODAY NETWORK-Florida Dining and Entertainment Team.
The standout local roadside spot? Sebastian’s Roadside Restaurant, where at-home cooking can relieve that inevitable road-trip hunger. The other Florida eatery making the cut: Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen in Key Largo.
What drew Southern Living’s eye to the restaurants featured in the article? A road trip “is as much about the drive as it is the destination,” the article shared.
“When Southerners prepare for a long drive, food is often at the top of mind. From pit-smoked barbecue to pillow-soft biscuits served with homemade preserves, the food at these 15 Southern roadside restaurants is worth the trip every time.”

Comfort food at reasonable prices: “If we wouldn’t make it at home, we won’t make it here,” owner Thomas Wright said, and he stands by those words. Established in 2013, this roadside standout is on U.S. Hwy. 1 along the Indian River, occupying a 75-year-old Florida home. Large dinner portions, with choices ranging from black Angus burgers to prime rib and meatloaf are a hit with guests; they serve breakfast and lunch, too, six days a week.
“The Chocolate Mile High Layer Cake will give you enough motivation to finish out your drive every time,” Southern Living said.

Rosemary and Walter Smith have been bringing New England style seafood to Brevard County at this location off A1A since 2002. Locals and tourists alike are drawn to the whole fried clams and the house-made clam chowder. Dining with fanfare and pretense is unnecessary when you are arms-deep in lobster tails. The eatery is closed Monday and Tuesday.

4 Wave Crest Ave., Indialantic
Sure, it’s a pizza place. However, it’s the original Bizzarro, a place that looks and feels like a New York diner but it’s steps from the sand and has gorgeous views of the Atlantic beach. Bizzaro has been owned and operated by Francesco Bizzarro for more than three decades. Enjoy thin crust pie by the slice or grab a Sicilian and sit at the picnic tables; salads and baked pasta are on the menu, too. All in all, it’s a pretty classic place to stop for any road trip through Brevard.

This laid-back Tex-Mex joint has been making margaritas and tacos for the community and guests since 1980. With low prices, beach access, outdoor eating and plenty of parking, it’s a great place to pull in from a trip and grab a quick bite. ter 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, tacos and drafts are $2. Recipes date back 50 years and owner Bobby’s goal is to carry on the legacy built by the previous owners and make sure this establishment is loved by locals for years to come.
