Severance is one of the darkest shows on TV, but star Dichen Lachman has an idea about how to lighten things up for season 3.

“I mean, I am so excited to see what Eliza Thompson Dan Erickson is coming up with,” Lachman, who plays Gemma Scout, exclusively told Us Weekly at Severance’s PaleyFest panel in Los Angeles on Friday, March 21. “But I thought it could be fun if season 3 was like a sitcom and it was a timeshare where they live in a Friends-type apartment building.”

Allow her to explain further: “They sever, and then they go and they have their little timeshare relationship with everybody.”

It’s certainly one way to solve the dilemma created by Friday’s season 2 finale, which ended with Gemma having escaped Lumon without her husband, Mark (Adam Scott), whose innie decided to stay on the severed floor with his new paramour, Helly (Britt Lower). There’s still a possibility that innie Mark might agree to reintegrate, but that chance is looking slimmer and slimmer now that he knows outie Mark has no intention of letting him continue his romance with Helly.

For now, fans are just happy that Gemma (a.k.a. Ms. Casey) survived her ordeal on the research floor. While Lachman, 43, doesn’t know what’s coming for her character, she does relate to Gemma’s “desire to be liked and feel like she belongs,” even when that desire is detrimental to her own well-being.

“I think a lot of people feel like that, which is why they love her, in a way,” Lachman told Us. “We all want to feel like we belong, and maybe sometimes we shouldn’t. Maybe that comes with being so much more sure of yourself, which I wish I was, sometimes, but we all struggle with that. That’s what I love about Ms. Casey.”

Lower, meanwhile, cautioned fans against getting too attached to any ideas sparked by the finale, especially as it relates to the complicated relationship between Helly, Gemma and Mark.

“I guess on the surface, it looks like a triangle, but if you know me, I love talking about shapes,” the actress, 39, joked during the PaleyFest panel. “It might be a tetrahedron or a hexagonal prism, and so, to add complexity, maybe in that last moment, Helly R. is — it’s love at first sight, seeing Gemma across the hallway.”

Severance season 2 is now streaming on Apple TV+.
