After being closed for months due to significant water damage, the second floor of the Shasta County Superior Court building in Redding is reopening on Monday.

The second floor of the six-story courthouse, including criminal courtrooms, was closed in May for repairs. As a result, some courtroom services had been temporarily reassigned to alternate courtrooms.

The repairs were expected to be completed by early November, said Blaine Corren, spokesman for the building’s owner, the Judicial Council of California.

Starting Monday, Nov. 3, “all temporary (courtroom) reassignments are canceled and courtrooms will return to their normal assignments,” said Cody Stenderup, court executive officer, on Friday. Oct. 31.

“Jurors who are already empaneled in trial departments have been provided with directions for reporting on Nov. 4,” said Stenderup, with jury services staff available to assist people with questions.

Normal hours will resume Nov. 3, said Stenderup, “and the public should not see any further disruption.”

Court officials said the building leak in May was caused by a broken coupler on the second floor and damaged walls, flooring and ceiling tiles across the court’s second, first and ground floors. While the main courthouse building reopened in late May, the second floor remained closed for repairs and cases were redirected to other departments.
