The 2028 presidential election is years away at this point, but people are already discussing which candidates might be able to run for the Democratic party in 2028.

Somehow, Stephen A. Smith seems to keep coming up as one of those potential candidates.

As soon as the 2024 election was over, Smith’s name kept popping up in the ether over and over again as a possible nominee for the party. On top of that, he said he’d be open to it if he thought he could win the opportunity.

His tune seems to be changing a little bit on that these days, though.

In an appearance on Fox News, Smith said he’s “not qualified” to seek the office of the presidency and also said the fact that his name continues to pop up in these conversations shows how deep a hole the Democratic party is in.

“The fact that I am a candidate for the presidency of the United States of America, according to the polling for the Democratic party, is the most clear-cut evidence of how pathetic of a state of affairs that exist within the Democratic party today,” Smith said.

And, honestly, there’s probably some truth to that!

Guys. Smith is a sports talk debate show host. He hasn’t been a senator. He’s never been a governor. He hasn’t run for any office. He’s not an expert in the core functions of government. Considering him as a candidate is probably not the best spot to be in.

But, then again, he might be selling himself a little short here. Think about it. Ronald Reagan was an actor before becoming governor and, eventually, president. Abraham Lincoln was a bar owner and licensed bartender before getting into politics. Donald Trump was a reality TV star. He’s also a convicted felon who was found guilty of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to a porn star.

So, hey, maybe First Take host isn’t so disqualifying after all.
