As Kody Brown geared up for the second stop on his so-called “apology tour” on Sister Wives, he confessed his relationship with Christine Brown isn’t as healthy as the one with Janelle Brown.
“I think the easiest of the chores was going to see Janelle and apologize to her,” Kody, 56, revealed during the Sunday, December 14, episode of the TLC series after having a successful trip to see Janelle, 56, in North Carolina one episode prior.
He confessed, “So when I go see Christine, I don’t expect it to be easy necessarily.”
Kody added that he was hoping for the “same kind of tenderness and grace” from Christine, 53, as he received from Janelle, but was “prepared for a very different experience.”
Kody later explained that Christine being the first of his three exes to leave him in November 2021 complicated their current relationship. (Janelle followed in December 2022, while Meri Brown confirmed her split from Kody in January 2023. Kody remains married to fourth wife Robyn Brown.)
“I think the last time we talked about our relationship may very well have been when she told me she’s done and she wants to move,” Kody recalled. “I mean, I didn’t react really positively to any of that.”
He acknowledged, “I am walking into an environment where trust has been killed. I mean, we don’t have trust.”
Despite being on rocky ground with Christine, who is the mother of six of Kody’s children, he said he was choosing to offer “an olive branch” in hopes they could bury their issues.
When Kody finally met up with Christine, he also made sure to invite her new husband, David Woolley, to show “respect.”
“I wanted to apologize with all my heart for how we broke up, for how it all went down,” Kody began, while sitting at a table with both Christine and David in Las Vegas. “I want to apologize for being angry about it. I want to apologize for the struggles.”
Christine received his apology, but told her ex-husband it is “in the past.” She added, “Apologies are nice, but I’m saying it’s OK.”
Kody noted that the “huge” thing he wanted to apologize for was saying he “didn’t love” Christine or any of his other exes. “I was angry and that wasn’t cool,” he confessed.
While Christine previously took offense to Kody claiming he didn’t have feelings for her, Janelle or Meri, 54, amid their breakups, she told the cameras she was way past that drama.
“Again, you just got to let that go. I remember what it was like, but I’ve got a new husband here now and it’s weird, man,” she said on Sunday’s episode. “That’s a weird thing to say. I have a husband right here now, you know, to [say], ‘I used to love you.’”
Christine confessed, “I can’t imagine what’s going through David’s head right now. … I know that doesn’t affect me. That’s you.”
In a preview for next week’s episode, David comes to Christine’s defense and their cordial conversation with Kody appears to escalate.
“This is my husband here. This is so weird,” Christine says in the clip for the Sunday, December 21, episode.
The camera then flips to David speaking to Kody directly. “You know damn well you loved her because you wouldn’t [have] got married, you wouldn’t have all these kids, if you didn’t love her,” David quips.
Kody tries to deescalate the situation, saying, “There is so much water under the bridge. I’m here to apologize.”
David, however, stands his group, firing back, “Start with your kids.”
Sister Wives airs on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
