Skylar Diggins may have lost her starting role with the Sky, and it’s safe to say she’s less than thrilled.
While the Sky haven’t officially made an announcement regarding their starting lineup and whether Diggins is moving to the bench, the veteran guard took to social media to reveal what her future plans may be and expressed frustration with the team’s decision.
“Now I’m coming off the bench?????? Cool,” Diggins wrote on her Instagram story.
“And the crazy part about it all is that… I’ve been so quiet. I’ve been so good and quiet. I’ve been so good and quiet,” Diggins said in a video posted to her Instagram story.
Though Diggins’ move to the bench isn’t official, it’d be unfamiliar territory for the 35-year-old.
Not only has Diggins started each of the Sky’s 19 games this season, but she’s started 341 of her 354 career WNBA games.
Amid the Sky’s brutal 3-13 stretch and 6-14 overall record this season, Diggins has been a shell of her former self.
Diggins is averaging just 14.2 points per game and shooting 39.2 percent from the field, her worst marks in both categories since 2016.
In a 107-99 loss to the Aces on June 28, Diggins went just 2-of-11 with seven points. In a 29-point loss to the Sun on June 22, she went 0-of-7 with only three points.
The No. 3 pick in 2013, she’s averaged 16.3 points per game throughout her career, received six All-WNBA nods and been selected to seven All-Star games.
After spending the last two years with the Storm, Diggins signed a two-year deal with the Sky this past offseason.
A likely replacement for Diggins in the starting lineup is 37-year-old Courtney Vandersloot, who recently returned from a torn ACL.
Before suffering the injury, Vandersloot started for the Sky in 2025.
Vandersloot has averaged 8.7 points per game this year while coming off the bench in three contests.
