The Friends of the Imperial Beach Library (IB FOL) is holding a “Welcome 2025” Outdoor Book Sale this Saturday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of our FOL Bookstore by the library! If keeping a New Year’s resolution is a challenge, here’s one that could be fun to keep! Calling all book lovers, movie lovers, and jigsaw puzzle aficionados to come check out the first fabulous FOL Book Sale of the New Year! We also have Diamond Dotz bookmarks and eye-catching and beautiful hand-painted rocks, including some with sparkly Diamond Dotz embellishments to accent your home and garden (fully sealed to prevent any fading) for special occasions or even no occasion!

We will be offering our ever-popular “$5 bag of books” at the sale and in the bookstore all day! Don’t miss this opportunity to add to your collection of books, DVDs, or jigsaw puzzles. If a $5 bag of books may be too many books to buy at once, consider our January Bookstore promotions going on all month of Buy One Get One (BOGO) Free for all fiction books (adult, youth, or child) or the promotion of BOGO Free for all nonfiction books about religion and developing or enhancing a better relationship with those around you (an in-store promotion). These promotions are honored at the Outdoor Book Sale and in-store

Many recent arrivals in all types of books and interesting jigsaw puzzle donations, from winter wonders to the iconic Hotel Del to animals to landscapes, have recently come in. And we now have a new selection of lightly played board games for family entertainment. As Southern California goes through our version of winter, on chilly evenings, it may be nice to cozy up indoors and see who can break the bank at Monopoly. Or claim the top spot while playing Taboo, Scrabble, Monopoly Junior, Pictionary, etc., or work on a tropical jigsaw puzzle to dream about spring coming in a few months.

We are currently rich in memoirs and biographies. Many cookbooks filled with delicious recipes have come into the bookstore in recent weeks, along with self-help, exercise, devotions, nature, crafts, gardening, and the arts. There have been recent acquisitions of “coffee table” books, on a variety of topics to tempt you.

Also included are DVDs, CDs (at a WOW price of $0.50 per disc), audiobooks, and vintage record albums for all ages and tastes! We will have the cadets of Mar Vista High School’s award-winning Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) assisting in bringing books and other items out for the sale and helping organize and return remaining items back into the FOL Bookstore. We are grateful for their generous support and community pride.

As a non-profit organization, the IB Library Friends’ mission is to encourage reading and literacy and offer support to the IB Branch library for the benefit of the community. All money earned by the FOL Bookstore based on generous donations received is used to buy special items such as magazine and book collections and support programs offered by the library for all age groups. All library programs are free to the public.

We welcome new members at any time. Ask in our FOL Bookstore if you might be interested. Donations of books of all kinds, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, jigsaw puzzles, and family games are gratefully accepted and may be made when the bookstore is open, Monday through Saturday. We love being part of our community!
