Taylor Swift has put her stamp on the skirt suit once again. The music star opted for a classic combination when she stepped out for dinner last night at Nobu in New York City.
For the occasion, Swift wore a set by Area. The skirt suit, consisting of cropped jacket with an oversized lapel and a gold chain and black gemstone detail at the front, nodded to the ’90s — much like the Versace windowpane suit she wore to a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos in November. Swift paired the set with sheer diamond net tights, Chloé’s Eve thigh-high boots, and Jimmy Choo’s diamond frame clutch. She finished her look with pendant earrings from Chanel, gold rings, and a red lip.

Skirt suits trended on the red carpet throughout 2024, with celebrities such as Zendaya, Ariana Grande, Demi Moore, Hailey Bieber and Sydney Sweeney putting forth new takes on the classic. Zendaya gave the skirt suit an avant-garde makeover at Louis Vuitton’s spring 2025 show, wearing a contrasting blazer with a sculptural beige miniskirt from Vuitton’s 2025 cruise collection. Grande also put a whimsical twist on the skirt suit, with an asymmetrical vest and flared skirt by Atelier Versace for a screening of “Wicked” in New York in October. Moore combined the skirt suit and florals in a check blazer and matching midi skirt printed with peonies from Erdem’s resort 2025 collection at a screening of “Landman” in London this past November.

Meanwhile Bieber dialed back the clock in a velvet skirt suit from Yves Saint Laurent‘s fall 2002 collection, designed by Tom Ford, at the Los Angeles opening of Gigi Hadid’s Guest in Residence store last month. And Sweeney also opted for a look by Tom Ford, wearing a three-piece skort suit consisting of a double-breasted wool blazer with a backless halter vest and a mini skort, for the opening of RH Newport Beach in November.
Swift had a banner 2024, between her record-setting Eras tour, which concluded last month in Vancouver, and record-setting win for the most albums of the year at the Grammys thanks to her 10th studio album Midnights. Swift also became the top red carpet female celebrity of 2024 in terms of media impact, according to data analysis from Launchmetrics.
With her appearances at last year’s Grammy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Emmy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards and Oscars, Swift generated a total of $319.2 million in media impact value per Launchmetrics, which uses a proprietary metric that assigns a true monetary value to marketing strategies across print, online and social media to calculate ROI.
