Nate Ament started his second-half scoring with a pair of free throws.

The Tennessee basketball sprinkled in jumpers, three three-point plays and more free throws on his way to a 15-point half against Northern Kentucky.

Ament scored 23 points and had eight rebounds to lead No. 17 Vols (2-0) to a 95-56 win against Northern Kentucky (1-1) on Nov. 8 at Food City Center. He also had five assists.

Ja’Kobi Gillespie scored 20 points and hit four 3-pointers. J.P. Estrella notched his first career double-double, getting to the 10-point, 10-rebound mark with a jump hook at the 8:21 mark of the second half. He finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Tennessee was 10-for-18 on 3-pointers in the first half.

The Vols fell behind early but crushed the Norse with an 18-2 run in 5:35 that turned a 10-5 deficit into a 23-12 lead.
