Once the Yankees traded for Juan Soto last December, they knew 2024 was going to be a unique year.

It’s not often — or ever — you land one of the top players in the sport with just one season left before he hits free agency and no real expectation you’ll be able to sign him before he hits the open market.

But the Yankees took the risk, sending four pitchers and a serviceable catcher to the Padres in exchange for Soto, who turned 26 last month.
