While U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., may be keeping the door open for a potential presidential campaign in 2028, the 56-year-old senator shut the door on his life as a bachelor last week.

Booker married 38-year-old Alexis Lewis, saying “I do” at a courthouse in Newark on Monday and at a private ceremony in Washington D.C., on Saturday, according to the New York Times.

The wedding ceremony was interfaith, with a rabbi and a pastor blessing the couple, according to the New York Times.

Booker is a Christian and Lewis is Jewish.

“Overflowing with gratitude,” the newlyweds said in a Sunday Instagram post. “We said ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us—Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C.—first at the courthouse, then with our families. Hearts full and so grateful.”

Booker was first elected to the Newark City Council in 1998. He served as the city’s mayor from 2006 until 2013, when he won a special election to serve in the U.S. Senate.

In March, Booker gave the longest recorded speech in Senate history, in which he protested the Trump administration.

The speech lasted for 25 hours and 5 minutes, surpassing the previous record set by former U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond, R-S.C.

Thurmond’s 24-hour and 18-minute speech was a filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

Lewis is a director of investments at Brasa Capital Management, a Los Angeles real estate investment firm, according to the Times. She met Booker on a blind date in 2024 that lasted for five hours, the outlet reported.

Booker announced his engagement to Lewis three weeks ago on Instagram, saying he and his fiancée were “truly blessed to be surrounded by such a beautiful community lifting us in love and commitment.”

Booker is also a potential Democratic presidential candidate.

During a trip to New Hampshire in November, Booker told Fox News and Axios he has not written off a 2028 run.

The New Jersey senator previously ran for president in the 2020 primary. His campaign began in February 2019, but he dropped out in January 2020.

In March 2020, he endorsed Joe Biden for president. Biden would ultimately win the Democratic primary and defeat President Donald Trump in the general election to become the 46th president of the United States.
