Things turned ugly in Landover on Saturday.
A wild brawl broke out late in the fourth quarter during the Eagles’ 29-18 NFC East-clinching victory over the Commanders in Week 16, and it resulted in three ejections.
The altercation started following an Eagles two-point conversion by running back Saquon Barkley with just over four minutes left to play.
It’s unclear how exactly the brawl started, but the broadcast booth did note things were getting chippy between the two teams.
In the video, Commanders defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw is seen swinging at an Eagles player, with Philadelphia right guard Tyler Steen throwing a few blows himself shortly thereafter.
Multiple players from both squads were continuously pushing and shoving each other, as six total flags were thrown amid the chaotic scene.
The scuffle caused a noticeable break in the game as it took officials some time to calm things down.
Eventually, order was restored, and Barkley, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner spoke to each other.
Kinlaw and his teammate, Commanders safety Quan Martin, were ejected from the game along with the Eagles’ Steen after being flagged for unnecessary roughness.
Following the game, Barkley told reporters that both he and his team need to be smarter and not put themselves in a situation like what happened on Saturday.
“We gotta be better, I have to be smarter,” Barkley said. “I shouldn’t have put myself in that situation. It’s really not worth it. Bobby Wagner did a really good job of making it make sense to me in that moment too. You get two to three punches at a helmet, hoping that you don’t break your hand, just to say that you’re a tough guy? It’s not really worth it.”
Saturday’s win marks the second-straight NFC East division title for Philadelphia, making them the first back-to-back winners of the division in 21 years.
