The Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet for the third time in 11 months today at Ford Field in Detroit (follow live updates).

It’s only Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season, but the Bucs have a lot on their minds, after losing twice to the Lions last season — once in Tampa, Florida in October, 20-6, and once at Ford Field in January in the NFC divisional playoffs, 31-23.

Both teams are 1-0 after hosting season openers, with the Lions surviving the Rams in OT, 26-20, and the Bucs blowing away the Commanders, 37-20.

It should be a wild Sunday in downtown Detroit, with the Tigers playing the Baltimore Orioles at Comerica Park at 12:10 p.m. and chasing their first playoff berth in 10 years.

Lions vs. Buccaneers prediction, picks, odds

Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press: There’s no denying the Bucs will be out to avenge their two losses to the Lions in the past 11 months. Tampa is a good team with a dangerous offense, and Todd Bowles is one of the best defensive coaches in the NFL. But he’ll have his work cut out for him given Tampa’s shortcomings in the secondary. I don’t think this game turns into a blowout, like the oddsmakers project. If Tampa has any success running the ball, this game won’t be decided until late in the fourth quarter. But as long as Jared Goff avoids turnovers, the Lions will walk away with the tiebreaker edge over another NFC playoff contender. The pick: Lions 28, Bucs 24.

ODDS: Lions by 7½.

MONEYLINE: Lions -375 Bucs +300.

O/U: 51½.
