With a little less than a month until Election Day, Kamala Harris holds a slim lead over her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, according to national polls.

While the Harris campaign continued to make television appearances claiming that Trump would be dangerous for the nation, the former president remained keenly focused on southern and Midwest swing states. Absentee and mail-in ballot irregularities in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, and North Carolina now attract the attention of Republican supporters.

Who’s winning the presidential election?

  • ABC News project 538 shows Harris leading nationally at 48.5% to Trump at 45.9% as of Tuesday, Oct. 8. At the same time last week, Harris had a 2.6-point lead over the former president, which has held steady.

  • 270towin shows Harris leading the national polls at 49.4% over Trump at 46.6% as of Tuesday, Oct. 8. That represents a slight decrease to a 2.6-point lead from 3.6 last week.

  • realclearpolling also shows Harris leading Trump 49.2% to 47.2% as of Monday, Oct. 7. Harris maintains a two-point lead from last week.

  • Polymarket, a crypto-trading platform, predicts Trump’s election victory at 53% to 47% as of Tuesday, Oct. 8. That represents the first time the former president has taken the lead over Harris in this specific poll.

When is the presidential election?

Election Day 2024 for the President of the United States and a full slate of congressional races across the country is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

That is also the last day to receive a ballot by mail.

Following the national count, electors in the Electoral College are set to vote Tuesday, Dec. 17, with Congress counting electoral votes Monday, Jan. 6. Inauguration Day for the President-Elect is set for Monday, Jan. 20.

Other dates to know for the 2024 presidential election:

  • Last day to apply for ballot by mail (received, not postmarked): Friday, Oct. 25

  • Early voting ends: Friday, Nov. 1
