Joe Rogan may have endorsed President Donald Trump in the 2024 election, but the podcaster is sounding more like the past third-party-voting Rogan these days.
On Wednesday’s The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan was joined by actor Russell Crowe, who was promoting his new film Nuremberg. Early in the nearly three-hour conversation, Rogan and Crowe both torched the influence of two major political parties — Democrats and Republicans — in American politics. Rogan at one point declared American politics to be a “ruse.”
“The idea that you can split all of us into two camps is kind of nuts,” Crowe said.
“It’s nuts,” Rogan agreed.
The comedian then blasted the state of American politics.
“In this country in particular, I don’t know about Australian politics, but we only have two parties and they’re both essentially financed by enormous corporations, so it’s a ruse,” Rogan argued. “The whole thing’s a ruse. You have different social issues on each side that come up, and then it becomes this, you’re with us or you’re against us, right versus left.”
“It’s going nowhere good,” Crowe added.
“Nowhere good,” Rogan echoed.
“We have the same sort of two principle party system in Australia, as well, but we have a slight advantage in that we’re kind of on the edge of the world in a lot of ways,” Crowe said, explaining that Australians grow up “looking out,” especially at the United States.
Rogan has long denied being either a Democrat or a Republican, describing himself as more socially liberal on many issues and more fiscally conservative in other areas. He interviewed Trump just before the 2024 presidential election and offered him a last-minute endorsement.
Rogan’s political leanings tended to be more Libertarian before Trump. The podcaster was long supportive of Ron Paul, the Libertarian-leaning former Texas Republican congressman, and he interviewed and endorsed Libertarian Gary Johnson in the 2016 presidential election.
“I voted for Gary Johnson, and I lean FAR more left than right,” Rogan wrote on X after the election.
Rogan remains plenty critical of liberals and Democrats on his podcast, but he’s grown more critical of Trump in certain areas, like mass deportations, calling them “horrific” on his show.
