Kathie Lee Gifford revealed this week that President Donald Trump helped save her and her newborn baby from a crazed stalker more than 30 years ago.
Gifford made the revelation while appearing on “The Sage Steele Show,” according to FOX News. The 71-year-old said that she was headed to Atlantic City along with her newborn daughter, Cassidy, to host the “Miss America” pageant when her husband, Frank Gifford, received a startling call from the FBI.
“They said, ‘Mr Gifford, we have a problem,’” she told Steele, per FOX. “There’s this guy. This is a very, very bad human being. (He) was a psychopathic murderer — a rapist and a murderer, and he’s coming to get your wife.”
Gifford said that, at the time, she was not aware of the threat, and that the FBI asked her husband for the family to proceed with their normal plans so they wouldn’t alert the suspect. She said the FBI told her husband that the suspect had “raped and tortured” his own aunt. Kathie Lee said that Frank told the FBI that he would not agree to the request until he made one call.
“And he called Donald,” she told Steele.
She then explained that she always stayed at Trump Plaza and Casino in Atlantic City, and that Frank called Trump to tell him what was going on.
“And this is why I will love this man for my whole life,” she said. “He said, ‘Frank, don’t worry about it. I’ve got your girls. I’ve got your girls, and don’t you worry.’”
Kathie Lee said she, her six-week-old daughter and nanny were slated to drive in a van to Atlantic City. Because her husband did not make her aware of the threat, she said she was surprised when Trump called and told her he was sending his helicopter to pick her up.
“I said, ‘Donald, why?’” she said. “He said, ‘Because you’ve had a baby.’ I said, ‘Donald, women have babies every day. It’s no big deal. Thank you. But it’s no big deal.’ And he goes, ‘No, congratulations. So happy for you …. (I’m) sending my helicopter for you and your baby and your nanny.”
She said she tried to talk Trump out of the move, but the helicopter showed up the next day, and that when she arrived at the hotel she was met by four members of his security team. And, she said, there was a security guard outside of her room the entire week.
She said she finally learned about the death threat when she saw it in a newspaper headline.
“And then I understood everything,” she said. “I understood what Donald had done. I understood what Frank had done to try to say, you know, not to be afraid and all of that.”
She said the FBI eventually informed her they caught the man.
