Mikey Madison has been making headlines ever since she beat out Demi Moore at the BAFTAs. Still, I had no idea that her career started long before she wowed us all in Anora.
Madison most recently starred in the 2024 film Anora, which earned her Best Actress nominations for the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards. The BAFTAs marked her first-ever win at a major awards show, but I couldn’t get past the feeling that I’ve seen her in something else. After a quick look at IMDb, I realized that Madison played a main character in FX’s Better Things.

Better Things revolves around a working actor named Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon), who is raising three daughters in Los Angeles as a single mom. Madison portrays Sam’s oldest daughter, Max, who is struggling with the adjustment to adulthood. The young actress starred in all five seasons of the drama, totaling 52 episodes.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Madison revealed that she practically grew up on the set of Better Things. “I started the show when I was 15, so it’s been a crazy journey,” she said.
In addition to Anora and Better Things, Madison also portrayed Judith in the Apple TV+ series Lady in the Lake and Amber Freeman in 2022’s Scream. Other acting credits include Imposters, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, The Addams Family and All Souls.
