Gerry Turner, who starred on season 1 of The Golden Bachelor, revealed he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year before his split from Theresa Nist. In an interview with People published Wednesday, December 11, the 72-year-old opened up for the first time about his battle with Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, a slow-growing bone marrow cancer. “Unfortunately, there’s no cure for it. … It was like 10 tons of concrete were just dropped on me. And I was a bit in denial for a while, I didn’t want to admit to it,” he said. Turner “explained the situation” to Nist, 71, in March — and the twosome announced their plans to divorce weeks later. “I hope that people understand in retrospect now that [my health] had a huge bearing on my decisions and I think probably Theresa’s as well,” Turner continued.
