Food writers across the country nominated restaurants that excited them, restaurants they would recommend to friends and family, restaurants they’d return to again and again.)

When informed about the honor, Joe Mastrella, the third generation to run the restaurant, was typically short on words. “The majority of our success is due to the loyalty of our customers,” he said.
USA TODAY Network food journalists from across the country pooled their expertise to select the list, which includes the places they know, love and recommend.
