August 2024 was the peak of the Presidential election between candidates Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. As the nation debated on which of the two tickets they would want running the country for the next four years, Donald Trump and JD Vance, or Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, it was Gus Walz, son of Tim Walz, who grabbed the attention of the nation with his emotional display of pride in his father and his efforts to win the Vice Presidency during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on  August 21. Gus Walz’s tearful display of pride before the entire nation was enough to cause people to pause, including Photographer Megan Smith, who was on the scene to capture the moment and recalled the emotion in the room. “Covering the DNC was another non-stop moment of the election cycle that I grew accustomed to. But, when Tim Walz accepted the nomination for VP, all eyes were on his son Gus Walz, who teared up and pointed at his dad when his father told them he loved them from high up on the stage. A lovely moment in the dizzying fray. It was a pleasure to capture. “
