Wallace Alvin Lund passed away at his home in Ogden, Utah on November 17, 2024. He was born January 20, 1933, in Shelton, Washington to Virginia Belle Young and Myron Alvin Lund.

While as a young boy, he had a paper route and was a grocery bagger. When he was a teenager the family moved to Island Lake near Shelton, where he helped his dad build a lovely home and later built many homes together in the Shelton area. He also worked as a delivery man for a furniture store. While in high school and during his college days he played the trombone in the band.

He attended Central Washington College and then enlisted in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He served aboard the USS Caster as a damage control mate. After his discharge in 1953, he lived with his parents and sister in Kodiak, Alaska for a short time, where he worked in construction. He enrolled at Oregon State in January 1954 to study engineering. He soon realized his real passion was not engineering, but elementary education. He won several trophies while on the Oregon State swim team and was the team’s co-captain when they won their division.

Following graduation from Oregon State, his first teaching job was at the high school in Crescent City, California where he taught special needs students. In 1960, he relocated to North Bend, Oregon and taught 5th and 6th grade. He also served as a football, basketball and track coach. During the summers he either taught swimming or was a long-haul trucker.

It was during his time at Oregon State that he met Lorraine Baldwin. They were married on June 13, 1954 in Lebanon, Oregon and were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on June 22, 1960. They were blessed with five wonderful children, Sally (Paul) Boberg of Tennessee, Chris (Carrie Lee) of Clearfield, Diane of Ogden, John (Carrie Jane) of Houston, Texas, and Peter (Sherri) of South Jordan. They have 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

While in Shelton, he was the only Aaronic Priesthood member in his small branch for a few years. Upon turning 16, he was the branch clerk. When living in Coos Bay, Oregon he served as eider’s quorum president, branch president, member of the district high council, counselor in the district presidency, and was an early morning Seminary teacher. When the stake was organized, he served as a counselor in the stake presidency. In Ogden, he served on the high council, as a counselor in the bishopric, and was always a faithful home teacher. He and Lorraine served as ordinance workers for nine years in the former Ogden Temple.

Wally’s life was exemplified by his love of his family, the Savior, his country, and his students. He was a great storyteller and loved sharing stories about his family and ancestors. He treasured his travels to England and Norway. There isn’t room to relate all of the wonderful things Wally was and did. He will be greatly missed by his wife, five children, grand and great-grandchildren, and all who knew him.
