As Hurricane Milton continues on its path towards Florida’s west coast with potentially devastating consequences, it is forecast to deliver at least blustery weather on the east coast if not worse. As of Tuesday, Oct. 8, Palm Beach County is under a tropical storm warning and will likely experience winds of 39 to 57 mph according to the National Weather Service.

Here’s a look at what is expected to be open and closed in Palm Beach County on Tuesday. Conditions are changing, so check online before making plans.

Transportation

Palm Beach International Airport

PBI is currently open and operational. Airport officials are monitoring the forecast for Hurricane Milton and will announce any change in operations on social media and on their website at pbia.org. Please check with your airline for the latest flight information.

Port of Palm Beach

The port will shut down at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 8 and will remain closed until further notice. It will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so, officials said.

Brightline

Brightline will cease operations all day Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10 between West Palm Beach and Orlando in advance of Hurricane Milton. Service between all South Florida stations is expected to continue with 14 roundtrips both days. Today, Tuesday, Oct. 8, Brightline’s 7:45 p.m. northbound departure from Miami will terminate in West Palm Beach. All other Tuesday departures will operate as scheduled. The high speed rail service will resume full operations after an assessment of track conditions once the storm has passed. Passengers who currently have a reservation should refer to their email for updates to their trip. Passengers are encouraged to visit www.gobrightline.com and social media pages for the latest information.

Tri-Rail

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority is currently monitoring the path of Hurricane Milton for the potential of any service disruptions. According to their website on Tuesday morning, Tri-Rail will continue regular operations at this time.

Palm Beach County Public Schools

The Palm Beach County School District has canceled all classes and after school activities for Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10. Regular classes are still scheduled for today, Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Palm Beach Atlantic University

The university will close its West Palm Beach campus at 5 p.m. and its Orlando campus at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 8. They will continue academic instruction remotely from through Friday, Oct. 11. The they are anticipating the campus closures to last only through Wednesday, a thorough assessment will be done following the storm before reopening. Florida Atlantic University

Florida Atlantic campuses will suspend operations and classes, including online classes, effective 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 8 through Thursday, Oct. 10. A decision about Friday, Oct. 11 operations and classes will be made as information becomes available. Students, faculty and staff are advised to monitor all communication channels, including the University status page (fau.edu/advisory), the University homepage (fau.edu), the Florida Atlantic hotline 1-888-8FAUOWL (832-8695), email, text, phone and local media outlets.

Palm Beach State College

Palm Beach State College will be closed today, Tuesday, Oct. 8 through Thursday, Oct. 10 in anticipation of the storm, according to an announcement today, Tuesday morning. Online classes are also cancelled.

Attractions

Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge

The refuge closed Monday evening, Oct. 7 and will remain closed until conditions improve. Please check their website for the latest announcements including when they will reopen.

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary

The facility will close to the public Wednesday, Oct. 8 and Thursday, Oct. 9 and will stop accepting patients to the their rehabilitation center at noon Wednesday. People are advised to check the sanctuary’s social media for when they will reopen for possible patient intake on Thursday.

Cox Science Center and Aquarium

The center will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Palm Beach Zoo

Due to the potential impacts of Hurricane Milton, the zoo will be closed today, Tuesday, Oct. 8 through Thursday, Oct. 10. This time will be used to ensure the safety of the zoo staff and animals. The Zoo’s dedicated Ride Out Crew will stay at the Zoo for the entirety of the storm to care for the animals you know and love.

Norton Museum of Art

Because of potential severe weather caused by Hurricane Milton, the Norton Museum of Art will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10. Weather permitting, the museum will reopen Friday, Oct. 11. For the most up-to-date information, visit norton.org and follow on social media.

Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum

The park’s officials said that they will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 9. They are currently monitoring the situation to see if they will close on Thursday, Oct. 10.

Armory Art Center

Due to the possibility of severe weather from Hurricane Milton, the center’s classes are canceled Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10. The administration offices will be open until 1:30 p.m. on Oct 9. Weather permitting, the center will reopen on Friday, Oct.

Kravis Center

Enjoy the production of “Shrek: The Musical” onstage at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts this weekend.

The performing arts center will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10. This includes the box office and administrative offices.

Lake Worth Beach Pier

The City of Lake Worth Beach closed the Lake Worth Beach Pier, also known as the William O. Lockhart Municipal Pier, Monday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. Once the inclement weather has subsided, their staff will assess any damage and reopen the pier when it is safe to do so.

Margaritaville at Sea

The USCG has closed the Port of Palm Beach for cruise operations until further notice. Margaritaville at Sea’s earliest estimation to resume port operations is Friday, Oct. 11, however, the decision to reopen the port is ultimately made by the USCG and the Port of Palm Beach. As a result of this closure, the Wednesday, Oct. 9 sailing on MAS Paradise has been canceled.
