CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Friday is the Fourth of July, but what does that mean for businesses and stores?
Preparations begin for biggest July 4th event in western Massachusetts
The origins of the Fourth of July date back to July 4, 1776, when the U.S. unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, according to USA Today.
Luckily, most major retailers, fast food chains, and grocery stores will be open for the holiday, however, Costco is closed. Locally owned businesses may not, or they may have limited hours for Independence Day. It’s best to call ahead or check online to see if the business you’re looking for is open.
The Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission Regulations state that Massachusetts residents can buy alcohol from liquor stores on the Fourth of July. Beer, wine, and liquor can also be purchased at open grocery stores. While there are no specific hour restrictions, people should check their local liquor store’s hours.
All post offices will be closed for retail transactions, and there will be no regular residential or business mail deliveries. UPS and FedEx pickup and delivery services will not be available. UPS Store locations may be closed, and FedEx Office hours will also be modified.
Branches of Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PNC, Truist, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, and Capital One will be closed. Capital One Cafes will remain open.
