President-elect Donald Trump, who carried Michigan in the 2024 presidential election, will be inaugurated Monday in Washington, D.C., with events featuring country singer Carrie Underwood and Michigan native Kid Rock.

The 60th presidential inauguration will take place inside the U.S. Capitol for the first time in 40 years because of below-normal temperatures expected Monday.

“Therefore, I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather,” Trump said in a statement.

The event marks the peaceful transfer of power from outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, to Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance.

Trump defeated Harris in the November election after Biden chose to step aside and not seek a second term.

Trump, who was Biden’s predecessor, is only the second person to return to the White House — after Grover Cleveland — after losing an election for the office.

This year, Inauguration Day falls on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
