The top contenders for the United States presidential seat have chosen their running mates, and Americans will soon hear them go head-to-head in a vice presidential debate.

It will be the first time Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz, and former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, face off — and it could also be the last time the pair debates prior to the election.

When is the vice presidential debate 2024?

The vice presidential debate is set as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance gear up to take the stage on Oct. 1 after both accepted an invitation from CBS News.

The network has not yet released a broadcast time.

Who will moderate the vice presidential debate?

Anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell of “CBS Evening News” and CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan will moderate.

Key dates for the 2024 presidential election

Voters across the U.S. will start showing up to the polls as early as next month, when Pennsylvania kicks off early voting on Sept. 16. The official Election Day falls on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
