Members of Congress returned to work on Capitol Hill this week. One of the priorities Speaker of the House Mike Johnson promised to address is the support package for Ukraine. It’s been languishing there after the Senate authorized help for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and the border.

The speaker keeps getting threats he’ll lose his job from hard-right Republicans if he OKs the deal for Ukraine.

Some Democrats say they would have the Republican’s back.

Host Jim Niedelman returns  with Democratic political consultant Porter McNeil and former Iowa Republican Party Chair Steve Grubbs.

“The problem is that you have a House caucus rule that allows one member to call for a vote on removing the Speaker of the House,” McNeil said.

“Republicans have a math problem,” Grubbs said. “You have 218 Republicans, 213 Democrats …. You can only lose three votes.”
