“A League of Their Own” star Rosie O’Donnell has officially left the United States, revealing that she relocated to Ireland following Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Rosie O’Donnell shared the news in a TikTok video on Tuesday, telling fans she had been settling into life overseas since departing the U.S. on January 15, just five days before Trump’s inauguration.

“I’m here in Ireland. And it’s beautiful and warm — not physically. It’s actually quite cold,” she quipped, before adding, “It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I’m very grateful.”

O’Donnell explained that she is currently in the process of obtaining Irish citizenship, as her grandparents were born there.

While she never imagined moving to another country, she said she ultimately felt it was the right decision for herself and her 12-year-old child, Dakota, who identifies as non-binary and goes by Clay.

“I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, [but] that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are,” she shared.

Despite adjusting well to her new surroundings, O’Donnell admitted she deeply misses her other children, her friends, and many aspects of life in the U.S. However, she made it clear that she has no plans to return anytime soon.

“When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back,” she stated.

The actress and comedian also reflected on the emotional toll of recent political events, calling it “heartbreaking” to watch what has been unfolding in the U.S.

“The personal is political, as we all know,” she added.

O’Donnell had hinted at her international move earlier this month. In one Instagram post, she shared a selfie from behind the wheel of a car, joking about adjusting to driving on the opposite side of the road in Ireland.

“Bought a little used car to tool around the countryside on the wrong side of the road,” she captioned the post, adding, “Hit the curb three times – thought I hit a cat!!! #newadventures [red heart emoji].”

O’Donnell isn’t the only celebrity who has fled the US following Trump’s election. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have also reportedly left the United States following Donald Trump’s second presidential victory.

Sources close to the couple told TMZ that they decided to “get the hell out” of the country immediately after the President-elect’s win over Kamala Harris. Feeling “very disillusioned” by the results, the pair have since settled in the Cotswolds, a picturesque region in South West England, nearly two hours from London.

According to the report, DeGeneres and de Rossi had already purchased their new home before the 2024 election, seemingly preparing for a potential move.

DeGeneres, known for her outspoken political views, was a strong supporter of Harris’ campaign. The “Finding Dory” star publicly endorsed the vice president on Instagram in August and reportedly donated $3,300 to her campaign.

Former President Donald Trump secured victory in the 2024 presidential election, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in January. The highly anticipated outcome has sparked a wave of reactions from celebrities, many of whom took to social media to express their disappointment and concern.

Actress Christina Applegate made her stance clear in a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, urging followers who voted against women’s and disability rights to unfollow her.

“Please unfollow me if you voted against female right,” she wrote Wednesday morning. “Against disability rights. Yeah that. Unfollow me because what you did is unreal. Don’t want followers like this. So yeah. Done.”
