The Yankees are outspending and outthinking the Red Sox.
Last winter, they signed free agent left-hander Max Fried to a record $218 million, eight-year deal right after “saving” $760M on Juan Soto.
That beat the Red Sox, who “stopped” at $190M, and the Rangers, also at $190M.
What really has to hurt Boston is that two of the Yankees’ best players were born and bred in the Boston area. Likely All-Stars Ben Rice and Cam Schlittler are not only from suburban Boston (Rice, Cohasset; Schlittler, Walpole) but played college baseball in New England (Rice, Dartmouth; Schlittler, Northeastern).
