The Coachella Valley Firebirds will host an indoor fireworks show on Dec. 31, which will be at the center of a post-game New Year’s Eve celebration inside Acrisure Arena.

You might be asking, what, exactly, is an “indoor” fireworks show? Is it safe? Will the building burn down?

“The fire marshal has given approval and our pyrotechnics team has signed off on everything,” said Gina Rotolo, the Firebirds’ vice president of marketing and team business services. “We’ve taken every precaution to make sure that this is 100 percent safe.”

Rotolo said that while the fireworks show will be different than a traditional firework show, it will be the highlight of the New Year’s Even celebration. It will be an immersive experience, featuring pyrotechnic and cryogenic elements synced to a customized music mix and light show.

The show will begin approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the Firebirds game versus the Colorado Eagles, which is set to begin at 5 p.m.

Having the game two hours earlier will allow fans to get home earlier than usual or move onto parties, bars or other celebratory events. The festivities will be presented by Big Rock Pub in Indio.

For the game, the Firebirds will give away light sticks, which have been popular for fans in previous seasons. Rotolo said that there will be other festive give-aways during the game and that concessions will be open throughout the game, as opposed to closing after the second intermission, per usual.

“It’s the first time we’ve done something quite like this,” Rotolo said, “and we think it will be really special.”

Tickets are available for the game at the Acrisure Arena box office or online on the Firebirds’ website or via Ticketmaster.

Prior to the game, fans are invited to participate in pre-game Plaza events to kick off the celebration. Live music will be played, with games and activities for kids, food and beverage specials, and a special countdown to 2025 photo op.

“Our first year (2023), we had Maroon Five on New Year’s Eve,” Rotolo said. “This year, we wanted to try to create an New Year’s Eve experience for families to see if that’s something the valley wanted. So, rather than having a regular game, we wanted to give fans something a little extra.”
