SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The 2024 General Election is on Nov. 5, but not everyone in Georgia will be allowed to vote.
According to the United States Government, and the state of Georgia, the following will not be able to register to vote in the upcoming election:
Non-Citizens
Non-citizens, including permanent legal residents, cannot vote in federal, state, and most local elections.
Convicted Felons
In Georgia, you generally lose your voting rights if you are convicted of a felony. You can
register to vote again once you complete your sentence, including probation, parole, and paying
fines, fees, and restitution.
Some felony sentences do not restrict your voting rights. Pretrial detention and misdemeanors do not restrict your voting rights.
Key dates for the 2024 election in Georgia and South Carolina
Mentally Disabled
In Georgia, those who have been found mentally incompetent by a judge may not be allowed to vote.
U.S. Territory Residents
U.S. citizens residing in U.S. territories cannot vote for president in the general election.
Under 17 1/2 years old
Voters must be at least 17 1/2 years of age to register and 18 years of age to vote.
