The North Carolina Tar Heels football team opens the 2024 college football season against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Thursday (8 p.m., FOX) at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Coming off back-to-back seasons with at least eight wins, the Tar Heels begin their sixth season in head coach Mack Brown’s second stint in Chapel Hill without Sam Howell or Drake Maye at quarterback.
This will be the second meeting between UNC and Minnesota; the two programs met for the first time last season at Kenan Stadium, with the Tar Heels earning a 31-13 victory.

Conner Harrell or Max Johnson will be the Tar Heels’ starting quarterback on Thursday, but UNC returns several All-ACC players, including running back Omarion Hampton and pass rusher Kaimon Rucker.

In a game that will likely be decided late, I’ll roll with the best player on the field — UNC running back Omarion Hampton — to be the difference.
