Near Northwest-Riverside restaurant Pa & Ma’s Backyard BBQ will appear in the sixth episode of season 40 of Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” showcasing the cafeteria-style eatery’s barbecue and soul food.

When to watch Pa & Ma’s Backyard BBQ’s appearance on ‘Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives’
Season 40, episode 6 of “Triple D,” “Wide World of Chefs,” will air Friday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. It is the series’ 540th episode since its 2007 debut.
According to a description on Food Network’s website, Fieri samples Latin-inspired fare in coastal New Jersey and a global hodgepodge of flavors in Cambridge, Mass., before stopping by the Crossroads of America to sample Pa & Ma’s’ comfort classics.

How to watch live, on demand
Cable subscribers with Food Network can watch the episode at 9 p.m. They can also sign into watch.foodnetwork.com using their cable provider credentials. Streaming services with live TV bundles such as YouTube TV, Hulu and Sling will also allow subscribers to watch “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” when it airs.
If you can’t watch the episode’s first airing, it will be rebroadcast on the Food Network at midnight on Oct. 4. The full latest season of “Triple D” will also land on Discovery+ and Max after it wraps up later this fall.
What to know about Pa & Ma’s Backyard BBQ
George and Monica Nelson started selling plates of food for $5 out of their Indianapolis home in 1995 as Big George’s Backyard BBQ. In 2007, they moved into the former site of Pa & Ma’s BBQ on the northwest side, relocating multiple times before returning to the neighborhood in March.
The restaurant sells soul food and barbecue dishes like brisket, fried catfish, candied yams, chicken and dumplings and more in a cafeteria setting. Over time, George and Monica became known simply as ‘Pa’ and ‘Ma.’
In late August, George was shot and killed during an altercation outside the restaurant. He was 56.
The Nelsons’ community quickly rallied behind Pa & Ma’s, which Monica now runs with her daughter Brockelle. Monica said while she is still grieving George’s death, she is ready to continue his legacy at Pa & Ma’s and is excited to watch the “Triple D” episode.
“This is what my husband has been waiting for,” she said.
