The Federal Emergency Management Agency arrived in Western North Carolina shortly after Tropical Storm Helene swept across the area, leaving destruction in its wake.

Now, FEMA is distributing essential supplies out of disaster assistance locations in Asheville and surrounding towns, as well as Disaster Recovery Centers which the agency describes as “one-stop-shops” to discuss emergency assistance options in person.

Buncombe County provides updates on FEMA assistance locations, where survivors of Helene can pick up free food, water, hygiene items and more. Here’s where FEMA is today, Friday, Oct. 11.

FEMA disaster assistance locations in WNC

All locations are open 9 a.m.-6 p.m., with many locations changing daily. As of Friday, Oct. 11, the following FEMA locations were listed on Buncombe County’s website:

  • Black Mountain POD, 550 NC 9, Black Mountain

  • Pack Square Park, downtown Asheville

  • Community of Emma, 528 Emma St.

  • New Bridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Ave., Asheville

  • Walmart (laundry use trailer), 60 Airport Road, Arden

  • 800 Fairview Road, Asheville

  • Beech Community Center, 15 NC 2117, Weaverville

  • 503 Park St., Swannanoa

  • Riceville Community Church, 2251, 2341 Riceville Road, Asheville

  • North Star Academy (9 a.m.-2 p.m. only), 90 Montford Ave., Asheville

FEMA Disaster Recovery Center

Currently, Buncombe County’s DRC is open daily from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at A.C. Reynolds High School, Asheville. DRCs provide a place to ask questions and gain information on FEMA assistance in person.
