Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are still virtually tied in the seven key battleground states according to the latest Washington Post/Schar School poll. Harris has a narrow lead in the Blue Wall state of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, as well as in Georgia. Trump is ahead in Arizona and North Carolina, while they are tied in Nevada.

The former president spent Sunday working the fry cooker at a branch of McDonald’s – the latest bizarre moment in a campaign that has increasingly become a tour of personal vendettas and aimless grudges, despite his aides’ best efforts to keep him on track.

The Republican presidential nominee has become obsessed with the fact that his Democratic opponent worked in one of its restaurants when she was a student.

CBS News has meanwhile hit back at the former president over his repeated false claims that its show 60 Minutes edited its recent interview with Harris to make her answers appear more favorable.

In a statement, the show insisted its episodes are cut to be “clear, accurate and on point” and never “deceitful”.

Harris meanwhile spent the weekend celebrating her 60th birthday while Trump raised eyebrows with a crude anecdote about golfer Arnold Palmer’s manhood.

The Supreme Court has denied Michael Cohen’s request to hear his case against Donald Trump, who is accused of retaliating against his former attorney and “fixer” by keeping him in solitary confinement after he publicly discussed plans for a tell-all memoir.

The justices did not provide a written explanation for their decision on Monday.

Cohen filed his appeal to the nation’s highest court in July, arguing that the case raises major questions about constitutional abuses by the federal government against its sharpest critics.

“When we edit any interview, whether a politician, an athlete, or movie star, we strive to be clear, accurate and on point.

“The portion of her answer on 60 Minutes was more succinct, which allows time for other subjects in a wide ranging 21-minute-long segment.”

It also reiterated its offer to Trump to sit down for his own Q&A after he backed out of an initial agreement to appear.

Donald Trump serves up disturbing message with fries at Pennsylvania McDonald’s

08:45 , Joe Sommerlad

Good morning!

Donald Trump spent one of the final Sundays of the election cycle working the fry cooker at a Pennsylvania branch of McDonald’s – the latest bizarre moment in a campaign that has increasingly become a tour of personal vendettas and aimless grudges, despite his aides’ best efforts to keep him on track.

The Republican presidential nominee is known for his love of the fast-food franchise but has become obsessed with the fact that his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris worked in one of its restaurants when she was a student, a detail he griped about during his stunt appearance in Lower Southampton.

The roughly hour-long photo opp closed down the branch in question entirely.

During the visit, Trump had an apron tied behind his back by a McDonald’s cashier before he recieved a short demonstration on how to work the fry station before sticking his head through the drive-thru window.

The former president proceeded to hand out a number of orders, chatting to supporters who were picking up their meals.

But as he took a question from a reporter through the window, Trump again resorted to baseless suggestions that the upcoming presidential election could be tainted by fraud, a charge he and running mate JD Vance have repeated about the 2020 vote.

“Will you accept the results of the election?” the journalist asked.

“Yeah, sure, if it’s a fair election,” came the ominious answer.

Donald Trump put on an apron, worked the fryer and even spoke to reporters through the drive-thru window of a Lower Southampton, Pennsylvania-area McDonalds on Sunday in what is likely to go down as the strangest campaign stop of the 2024 cycle.

In his remarks to reporters during the campaign stop at various points, he attacked his opponent Kamala Harris for her description of the job as difficult; Harris worked at a McDonalds when she was younger, something the Trump campaign previously tried to claim was fake before pivoting to a staged display of how easy the job supposedly is.

Churchgoers sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Harris in Georgia

Sunday 20 October 2024 17:32 , John Bowden

Kamala Harris didn’t take a day off the campaign trail for her 60th birthday on Sunday, and made a morning campaign appearance at New Birth Baptist Church in Georgia.

The gathering was advertised by the 10,000-member megachurch, which hosted Harris in the venue which seats 7,500 on Sunday. It’s part of her effort to moblize the Black church — a core part of African-American life in the deep south — to push her over the top in Georgia, a key swing state won by the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020 as part of their defeat of Donald Trump that year.

During her remarks, churchgoers began singing “Happy Birthday” to Harris, who responded that it was “her great joy” to spend her birthday with members of the Black church.

Kamala Harris turns 60 today

Sunday 20 October 2024 16:33 , John Bowden

Just a few months after the Democratic nominee for president was forced out of the race due to broadening concerns about his age and mental faculties, Kamala Harris, his vice president, has turned 60.

Harris’s milestone comes as her campaign is on the final stretch of a bid to put her in the Oval Office. Just a couple weeks remain before Election Day.

The vice president’s age, once an afterthought, is now one of her key advantages as she faces a Republican who would be the oldest to ever serve when he left office in 2029 were he to win another term in the White House.

Messages came in from her current and former running mates as Harris prepared to hit the campaign trail again in the coming days.

“Happy Birthday to my dear friend, partner, and a remarkable leader – Kamala Harris,” wrote President Joe Biden in a short statement posted to Twitter.

“Happy Birthday, @KamalaHarris! Thank you for bringing compassion, decency, and joy to our politics. I’m honored to be in this fight with you, and I couldn’t be prouder to call you my friend,” added Tim Walz.

Arnold Palmer’s daughter once said her dad would ‘cringe’ at Donald Trump

Sunday 20 October 2024 04:30 , Katie Hawkinson

Arnold Palmer’s daughter once said the iconic golfer would “cringe” at former president Donald Trump.

“One moment stands out in my mind,” Palmer’s daughter, Peg, told a writer who worked on the golfer’s biography. “My dad and I were at home in Latrobe. He died in September, so this was before the election. The television was on. Trump was talking. And my dad made a sound of disgust — like ‘uck’ or ‘ugg’ — like he couldn’t believe the arrogance and crudeness of this man who was the nominee of the political party that he believed in.”

“Then he said, ‘He’s not as smart as we thought he was,’ “ and walked out of the room. What would my dad think of Donald Trump today? I think he’d cringe.”

Today, Trump told a 12-minute anecdote about the golfer in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where he was born.

Trump at one point made an off-color comment about Palmer, prompting derision on social media.

“He took showers with the other pros,” Trump said of Palmer on Saturday. “They came out of there they said, ‘Oh my God, that’s unbelievable.’”
