After three long years, the wait is almost over: Arcane season 2 is about to hit Netflix, and there’s loads to be excited about.

Based on the characters and lore from the uber-popular MOBA game League of Legends, Arcane first premiered on the streamer in November 2021, and it immediately captivated audiences worldwide. Both fans of the game and “noobs” new to the story immersed themselves in the city of Piltover and the undercity of Zaun.

The first season of the series, created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee and animated by French studio Fortiche, followed the story of sisters Vi and Jinx (formerly Powder) from their upbringing to their falling out and immediately shot up in Netflix’s rankings, becoming the streamer’s highest-rated series at the time and claiming the top spot in over 50 countries. It also made multiple end-of-year best lists in 2021, including Teen Vogue‘s.

Viewers clearly loved Arcane, but critics also agreed — the show ended up taking home four trophies at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Animated Program. It also racked up nine wins at the 49th Annie Awards, which honor excellence in animation. It also boasts a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. All that to say, expectations for season 2 of Arcane are more than stacked.

What is Arcane season 2 about?

Spoiler alert!!! 🚨🚨🚨 Arcane season one ended with the fallout of Vi and Jinx, as the former turned a stolen Hextech gemstone into her Fishbones rocket launcher from the game. We last saw her opening fire on the Piltover council, unbeknownst that they had just recognized Zaun as an independent city. Now on the verge of intra-city war, season 2 of Arcane will pick up right where we left off as Jinx’s attack “sets the stage for a dire escalation of the conflict between Piltover and Zaun.”

“I think a lot of characters are the goody-two-shoes of season one, trying to avoid the open conflict between the two cities. And then, at the end of Season One, it’s no longer possible to avoid that confrontation. And so, Season Two really explores the dark sides of the characters,” Linked told Tudum.

Is there a trailer for Arcane season 2?

There is, indeed. After many teasers, Netflix put out the official trailer for Arcane season 2 on September 5, 2025. In it, we see the immediate aftermath of Jinx’s attack. “You were right, Cait. My sister is gone. There’s only Jinx now,” Vi announces as Jinx’s chuckles take over the scene. “I want to tear that laugh from her throat forever,” Caitlyn replies. We then see the characters getting ready for war, and Ambessa Medarda announces there’s no choice but to declare martial law to reinstate peace in Piltover. Meanwhile, Jinx is planning a chaotic revolt in Zaun, and she has the people behind her.

In case you are not caught up with the events of season one (or simply need to jog your memory), Netflix also unveiled a full series trailer on October 16, 2024. The trailer is set to “Come Play,” by Stray Kids, Young Miko, and Tom Morello, off the season’s soundtrack and features scenes from both seasons one and two while teasing the awakening of the Arcane. There are indeed. Netflix released the first look at Arcane season 2 in January 2024. In the small clip, we see Singed giving a transfusion to a mammoth creature. “A nightmarish augmentation,” the description for the video reads.

Netflix put out a longer, second first-look clip in July 2024. Titled “Stealth Mission,” the clip sees undercover Heimerdinger and Ekko sneaking into the council.

A third sneak peek, titled “Enemy of My Enemy,” was released in August. The clip shows Jinx being ambushed by new character Smeech and his crew before Sevika saves her.

Will Arcane end with season 2?

Netflix is calling Arcane season 2 the “final chapter” of the show, so it is confirmed that season 2 will be the last one. However, seeing how expansive the League of Legends lore is and how successful Arcane has been, there will be more series headed our way in the future, and Linke has already teased that.

“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and our partnership with the wonderful animation studio in Paris called Fortiche,” Linke admitted to Netflix in June 2024. “[Vi and Jinx’s] arcs have grown so far beyond our original dreams for them, and we want to give the same treatment to more champions. So we are currently working on our next projects across television and film, and we are hopeful that we can share more by the end of the year.”
