The season is getting late early for the Cowboys.
Quarterback Dak Prescott is slated to “miss multiple weeks” with a hamstring injury sustained during Sunday’s loss to the Falcons, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
“In fact, this is not looking like a short-term injury,” Rapoport added.
Longtime Cowboys backup Cooper Rush is expected to get the start for the Cowboys next week against the Eagles.
Prescott spoke to reporters after Sunday’s game, explaining that this injury sensation was not one that he’s “felt” before.
“I’ve gotta get it looked at,” Prescott said. “I felt it on the third play, a little scramble to the left. Didn’t think much of it, to be honest with you, and then on the next play — throwing the stop route — pulled something. It was something I’d never felt. Tried to walk on it at that point, and then saw the medical team and asked if I could make it worse [by continuing].
“At that point, they said I wouldn’t be able to protect myself and they made the call to pull me out.”
Right before the NFL season kicked off, the Cowboys and Prescott reached a historic contract extension worth up to $240 million over four years.
The Cowboys have lost three games in a row to drop to 3-5 and now have an even deeper hole to dig out of this season.
Dallas has previously had success when Rush subbed for Prescott.
In 2022, the Cowboys went 4-1 started by Rush, and also won his only start in 2021.
