Pete Alonso’s free agency will be a fascinating bit of theater as MLB teams jockey for star players this offseason.

There are expected to be many teams looking to bring in the four-team MLB All-Star entering his age-30 season, and there is no clear favorite for which team will employ Alonso in 2025.

The Mets and Nationals are tied with +600 odds to sign Alonso, according to odds released by DraftKings.

Washington having the same chance as the Mets to sign Alonso is rather shocking since the Nationals have not splurged in recent years and may not be ready for contention.

This free-agent bidding war is expected to be as wide open as we’ve seen this offseason.

The Post’s Mike Puma reported that the Yankees have already checked in on Alonso this offseason after they decided to buy out Anthony Rizzo, leaving with them a gaping hole at first base.

In order for the Yankees to sign Alonso, they would likely have to let Juan Soto walk, potentially across town, as he’s more than likely the secondary option for them.

The Mets are expected to be “serious players” for Soto this offseason.

But that is expected to be the case with most free agents as the Mets have resources aplenty this offseason.

Expect the Mets to be among the favorites to sign most free agents going forward thanks to the team having the richest owner in the major leagues.

The Mets have also been linked to infielder Willy Adames in the early going, further showing their willingness to spend big money this winter.

Alonso, who is represented by the same agent as Soto in Scott Boras, could command a contract worth well north of the previous 7-year $158 million contract he was offered by the Mets in 2023.
