Of course it is Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid and the 9-0 Chiefs threatening to knock the 1972 Dolphins off their cherished pedestal as the only unbeaten team in NFL history.
The Chiefs will be in Buffalo on Sunday night as two-point underdogs, Mahomes versus Josh Allen renewing their epic rivalry, and you better believe that ’72 Dolphins fullback Larry Csonka, 78 next month, and guard Larry Little, 79 years young now, will be watching from their respective homes.
“We ’72 Dolphins — and I say ‘we’ because I think I can speak for all of us in this regard: We respect any team that approaches what Kansas City is doing right now,” Csonka told Serby Says. “Because they do it by design, the same design that we had.
“If you watch them, they are almost perfect on their fundamentals. They’re into the game, they don’t care about personal stats, they care about winning. They’re very reminiscent of what I experienced playing with the ’72 Dolphins, when I watch them on TV. They play genuine team football. Look at what you see when they show the bench. They show the defense on the sideline, they’re all looking at the game to see what their offense is going, and vice versa as well.
