Australia has always been good to comedian Ronny Chieng.

The land down under is where Chieng attended college, started his comedy career and met his wife, Hannah Pham. Like her husband, Pham works in entertainment but instead of being on the stage, she works behind the scenes as a lawyer and producer. She grew up in Melbourne, where the pair met, and attended Melbourne Girls Grammar School and the University of Melbourne.

Chieng and Pham began dating around 2009 when they were studying together and married seven years later. Although The Daily Show correspondent and Crazy Rich Asians actor is busy, one of his favorite activities is spending a slow Sunday with Pham.

“If I’m not touring, I wake up late, 10, 11 a.m., and one of my favorite things is to go for brunch with my wife,” Chieng told The New York Times in 2018. They enjoy grabbing Australian food from their favorite spot in New York City, followed by Chinese massages, grocery shopping and a stop for coffee.

In his December 2024 Netflix comedy special Love to Hate It, Chieng opened up about his and Pham’s plan to expand their family. In the opening joke, the comedian said that he and Pham are making and freezing embryos so they can have kids later in life.

“I love my wife so much I couldn’t even bear to watch her in pain,” Chieng said about injecting his wife with hormones before adding, “She did her part admirably.”

So, who is Ronny Chieng’s wife? Here is everything to know about Hannah Pham and her relationship with the comedian.

Chieng is originally from Malaysia and spent time growing up in Singapore and the United States, but his education later took him to Australia, where he met his wife. The couple first interacted at the University of Melbourne, where they were both studying law.

In a post on Instagram, Chieng looked back on the couple’s first trip together.

“2009. Visiting NYC for the first time with my new girlfriend. We met at law school in AUSTRALIA and this was a big trip for us. I was just 6 months into comedy,” he wrote, adding that the pair were then scammed into attending a comedy show under the guise that Eddie Murphy’s brother Charlie Murphy would be performing.

The moment came full circle when he had his own comedy show billboard in Times Square. “2023. In Times Square with my now wife (same woman) in front of my own billboard trying to scam people to come for my sold-out show at @radiocitymusichall. Thank you NEW YORK CITY for becoming our home,” Chieng wrote.

Pham wears multiple hats in her career. After getting a master of laws at New York University in 2017, she has worked as an executive producer, closely collaborating with Chieng on his career, according to her LinkedIn profile.

In her legal work, Pham mainly focuses on “intellectual property law issues (copyright, trademark and patent), brand protection and consumer law issues as well as managing intellectual property disputes.” She was named a Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 finalist in the Intellectual Property category and has written multiple papers on intellectual property in stand-up comedy.

Pham has also worked as a lawyer for media companies including VICE Media.

Chieng shared the story of his union to Pham in his comedy special, Asian Comedian Destroys America.

“I love my wife so much I married her three times,” Chieng shared with the audience. “Why? Because when you have Asian parents, you have to get married in every country you have relatives in.”

He went on to explain that they tied the knot in Australia, Malaysia and New York, joking that the final ceremony was for green card purposes.

Chieng added, “I’m speaking from personal experience here. There are fewer joys you will experience in life than organizing three weddings at the same time. Oh my God, it’s so much fun and easy to do!”

Pham is a fan of fashion and especially loves styling jumpsuits. She made an Instagram account to exclusively show off her jumpsuit collection and called it “JumpsuitPham.”

The account features all the times she has worn jumpsuits on the red carpet with Chieng, including a golden look for the 2019 International Emmy Awards and a custom purple and red jumpsuit for the Shang-Chi premiere.

She shared her cooking talents on YouTube

In 2018, Pham started a YouTube channel to share her family’s recipes. Titled Pham Bam Kitchen, the lawyer used the channel to teach her viewers how to make regional Asian food.

In the channel’s trailer, Pham shared, “When I moved to New York, I started to really miss home cooking, so I watched a lot of YouTube videos, FaceTimed with my mom, and learned how to make my favorite Asian dishes.” In her videos on the channel, she focused on teaching Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine.

Pham last posted on the channel in 2020, with a video featuring her mother and Chieng making and tasting a chicken curry.
