Mayor Eric Adams will sit down with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Friday — as rumors swirl of the indicted mayor angling for a pardon.
Adams was traveling to Florida on Thursday evening ahead of the meeting, which will take place just days before Trump’s inauguration.
“Mayor Adams has made quite clear his willingness to work with President-elect Trump and his incoming administration on behalf of New Yorkers — and that partnership with the federal government is critical to New York City’s success,” said Deputy Mayor of Communications Fabien Levy.
“Tomorrow, Mayor Adams will sit down with President-elect Trump and discuss New Yorkers’ priorities. The mayor looks forward to having a productive conversation with the incoming president on how we can move our city and country forward.”
The meeting comes just days after Adams broke bread with Trump surrogate and neighboring county leader Bruce Blakeman in a get-together that was left off his schedule.
Hizzoner’s spokespeople, though, adamantly denied that the two discussed anything about Trump or a pardon — saying the sit down was to talk about gangs.
Adams became the first sitting mayor of New York City to be indicted by feds in September on charges of bribery and wire fraud.
He is accused of accepting luxury travel in exchange for political favors from foreign leaders in what South District of New York prosecutors believe were bribes.
The mayor has denied any wrongdoing.
Some in Adams’ orbit, including those on his defense team, believe a Trump presidency could be a boon for his case, either through a pardon or Trump’s pick for the Southern District of New York.
For his part, Trump has left the door open for a pardon, saying that he believes Adams was unfairly targeted.
The meeting comes just day before Trump is set to take office and rumors swirl of a superseding indictment in Adams’ case.
