GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Today the Food Bank of The Rockies hosted Women in Business for a wine-in-the-warehouse volunteer shift.
The volunteer shift consisted of sorting and packing various food items and getting them prepared to be distributed to community members in need.
Olivia VanGundy, community engagement coordinator for Food Bank of the Rockies, says these events have been able to bring community members together in a positive and productive way.
“When it comes to these kinds of events it’s really great to see these organizations come together to volunteer, it’s a great way to spend quality time together , it’s a great way to get some movement, you know you’re running around the warehouse packing boxes, and your also just getting quality time with people and feeling good about how you are nourishing your community and helping our neighbors who are facing food insecurity.” says VanGundy.
Volunteers from today’s event said being in the warehouse gave them a sense of fulfillment and allowed them to network with their peers while also making an impact on the community.
About 15 members from the Women in Business showed up to volunteer today. They packed and sorted food for 2 hours.
The food bank has hosted about five of these events so far with various corporations and organizations.
VanGundy says these groups have been able to move up to ten thousand pounds of food within their shift.
After the shift to thank the volunteers for their hard work, the food bank hosted a wine happy hour for the organization.
