Forecasts for Upstate NY storm keep getting worse: A weekend snowstorm in Upstate New York knocked out power for thousands, and the latest forecasts paint an even grimmer picture. The National Weather Service has issued snow and wind warnings – the highest level of alerts – across much of the state through Tuesday. And there’s more: A snow squall warning in Tompkins County today, plus a winter storm watch for Onondaga and Madison counties for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Source: At least 9 to be charged in death of inmate Robert Brooks: On Dec. 9, multiple corrections officers repeatedly punched and kicked inmate Robert Brooks in the groin, abdomen and face in the infirmary at Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County. He died hours later at a Utica hospital. At least nine prison employees will be charged this week in sealed indictments issued by a grand jury, according to a source.
Editorial: $1B public housing makeover needs leadership; Mayor Walsh should provide it: The signature feature of a $1 billion plan to create a new neighborhood near Interstate 81 — a community center offering child care, job training, recreation and other amenities — is on hold, and possibly dead. We’ll leave it to others to assign blame. Right now, what the East Adams project needs is a leader — someone who can manage its complexities, coordinate timelines and hold people accountable for getting things done.

Orange comeback falls short against Tar Heels: The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team rallied from double-digit deficit in the second half of Saturday’s game against North Carolina, but stumbled in the final minute and came up short, losing 88-82 to the Tar Heels at the JMA Wireless Dome.
